What's New at CQ 4/2/20

"Isolation doesn't bother me at all. It gives me a sense of security." Jimmy Page

Dear Quarantined Quilters and Other Friends,

I think this is week 3 of the Great Quarantine, but it feels like we’ve been at this for months, and there is no end in sight. I hope Kat and I still like each other a few weeks/months from now! To facilitate our own social distancing, we have divvied up the shop. We each have our own office, our own telephone, our own cutting table, our own register, and our own bathroom. We are trying very hard to be good soldiers in this war! Every morning, afternoon, and several times throughout the day, we run around with our own bottles of Clorox wipes and wipe everything clean.

While we are here at the shop, we fill orders that you send in through the online store, answer the mail and the phones, and hope and pray that the mail, FedEx, and UPS folks stop here to pick up your packages! They don’t always, which is a bummer. Our goal is to fill your orders within 24 hours of receiving them, but if our regular drivers are off, we're finding that the substitutes sometimes assume that we are not here.  When that happens, there may be a slight delay. Please have patience!

I know trying to match colors on a computer screen is nigh on to impossible. If you are trying to buy border fabric or otherwise match a fabric you already have, you can send us swatches and we’ll do the matching for you. Make sure to include your name and contact information in the envelope, along with any guidance on what you are looking for. Look at our online store to get some ideas. We will contact you to set up a time for a video chat (FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, or Zoom) so that you can see what we’ve picked out. Never video chatted? We’ll tell you how, no worries. We are all learning new skills in this crazy time.

Online shoppers: I can’t afford to give you free shipping, I’m afraid, but please enjoy $5 off your orders over $50! Type in the code 6T26C in the “apply coupon” box at check out. You are also now able to purchase virtual gift cards through our website. We would appreciate that if you do purchase Gift Cards, you wait until we are back on our feet to use them. However, we won't turn them away if using a Gift Card is your preferred method of payment.

An extra special thank you for supporting Capital Quilts with your dollars, your online voice, and your energy during these tough times. The staff and I appreciate your choosing to shop at Capital Quilts to keep our wonderful community here for all to enjoy now and in the future.

Go ‘n’ Piece,
Alison

HOURS TO CALL THE SHOP
Please call the shop between 11-4 Monday through Saturday and 1-4 on Sunday if you need to talk with us. That will give us time to fill the orders that come in overnight and do the other things that need doing.

We prefer that you place your orders through our online shop on our website. We have found this is much easier for us. I understand that not everyone is willing to enter their credit card number into a computer, even on a secure site; don’t hesitate to call or email with your order if this is the case.

Please note: Capital Quilts is not an "essential" business in the eyes of the government, despite what we all think!  We are able continue to serve you because we have an online store, and there is a provision for "minimal operations" of non-essential businesses.  Curbside pickup is no longer an option, as it violates the stay-at-home orders issued by Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Stay home. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

CORONA CHALLENGE
Quilting will get us past this Coronavirus Crisis! Sign up for our Corona Challenge! You get a yard of fabric, free shipping, and the chance to express in fabric how you are feeling about this virus. We’ll hang the quilts in the Gallery and/or post them online, depending on how long this crisis lasts. Make them at least 20” x 20” but not larger than 60” x 60”. Use the fabric we send you along with fabric in your stash or that you buy (hopefully from Capital Quilts!). Return them to us by May 17. Go online or call the shop 301-527-0598 to take on the Challenge!

MAKING MASKS
Many of you are calling about making masks and caps.  Thank you!  These homemade items allow the "real" masks to be reserved for those medical professionals working directly with Covid-19 patients.  CLICK HERE to see Kat's list of area facilities accepting masks on our website.  Click on the facility name to be taken to their website, where mask details for that facility can be found.  Please pay attention; many places have differing needs. Please email Kat directly at kat@capitalquilts.com with any updates or additions.

Capital Quilts does not have any ¼” elastic. We suggest making ties instead, if you can’t find the elastic.

CAPITAL QUILTS CARES
All Capital Quilts Cares events in the shop are cancelled until further notice.

That said, we have free pillowcase kits available that you can sew at home. They are a wonderful beginner project to do with children. The kiddos will learn some sewing skills and stay busy, too! We can mail them to you or you can pick them up curbside. Return the finished pillowcases to the shop (when you can; there is no rush), and we will donate them to Ryan’s Case for Smiles.

CLASSES
All classes, clubs, and events are cancelled until further notice.

When we begin to reschedule classes, those of you who had registered before will be given the first opportunity to sign up for the new class.

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY

We've gotten in five bolts of "Red, White & True" from Kanvas.  These are patriotic prints in bright, clear colors.  $12.50 per yard.

After a customer called and wanted 4 Aboriginal charm packs all the same, we put together this one in cool, dark colors.  $10.99 each (we have two left).

These lush Honeystone metallic prints pair beautifully with Asian lines and with glitzy Christmas fabrics, too! $11.99 per yard.

JANOME
Janome has just closed both the warehouse and the offices in New Jersey. I am unable to get you parts and accessories until the NJ warehouse reopens. I can still obtain new machines, as these ship out of a different warehouse.

Meet the new 3160 QDC-T! This is an updated and upgraded version of the popular 3160 machines. It has needle up/needle down, a speed slide control, one-hand needle threader, the Superior Plus 7-point Feed Dog system, a locking stitch, thread cutter, drop in bobbin, and more. It is lightweight for easy carrying to classes, retreats, and friends’ houses (once it is once again safe to do so), and it comes with a hard cover and extension table. Call the shop to learn more!
