"May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!"

Dear Movers of Fabric and Shakers of Thread,

St. Patrick’s Day, that day of corned beef dinners, green beer, big Irish hearts and broad Irish grins, is this Sunday. My father, with only the smallest bit of Irish blood in him, always celebrated by buying a brown paper bag full of Irish Potatoes candy, a sweet confection of cream cheese, coconut, and sugar rolled in cinnamon. My mom often made corned beef and cabbage. Erin go braugh!

The Westalee Quilting With Rulers on a Domestic Machine event is just two weeks away. Have you signed up yet? There are two classes, both hands-on: Friday, March 29, is a beginners’ class and Saturday, March 30, is an intermediate level class. Both run from 10-5 and are taught by Dena Wilkins, a Westalee Educator. Sign up today for Intro to Quilting With Rulers and/or the ABCs of Ruler Quilting. You can call the shop, do it in person, or go online.

Would you like to be a mosaic artist? These mosaics are made with fabric! Staffer Kat Martinez is having a class tonight on Mini Mosaics from 7-9. And, to make last-minute enrollment easier, we have kits you can choose from, rather than rounding up all the fabric from your stash. Call ahead to reserve your place. 301-527-0598

How about a quilting party? Come to Night Owl on Saturday night, 6-12. You don’t have to stay the entire time; we understand if your eyelids start to droop! Bring a project to work on. CAPITAL QUILTS CARES:

All events are free. Please register for each workshop so that we know how many to expect. Coming up in March:

March 31 – Days for Girls: In some countries, girls are unable to attend school for up to a week a month because they don’t have access to sanitary supplies. Days For Girls is a non-profit organization that sends sustainable personal hygiene kits to girls around the world. Everything necessary is packed into a small drawstring bag that can be carried every day. Capital Quilts Cares has contributed to this project in the past by sewing the drawstring bags, and we’re asking for your help to do it again. Bring your machine and basic sewing supplies. There are 4 places remaining. Skill level: easy.

All fabrics are provided, but we ask you to bring a new, colorful, pretty washcloth or two to add to the bags. Thank you!

SMALL KENNEL QUILTS: We are always accepting small kennel quilts, and we always have free kits available for you to take home to make and return to us. They are a perfect little project for practicing your quilting skills! We receive requests from shelters for completed kennel quilts on a frequent basis, and we have recently received requests from California and Alabama. We are running low on finished quilts and need your help making more.
